Opening UP

Our kitchen and dining room project is coming along nicely.  The hubs busted out a ton of work this weekend.  I mainly just went behind him and cleaned and provided moral support, two things I happen to excel at!

As a reminder here is the before

Progress

That's plaster over wire mesh up there!

There used to be a window here to the old porch, that is now a part of our kitchen

See all of that board, that's what is underneath our siding...this used to be an exterior wall for the porch.  NOT fun to remove as those boards go all the way to our roof and all the way through to the basement.

Temporary wall, repairing beams and ceilings

New column

We are closing in this door to make room for an island

The plan for getting onto the deck, french doors or sliding doors where the window is now.

That's a wrap! For the weekend anyways!

WALLpaper Be Gone

The dining room is officially under renovation!  I have been dying to tear down the grass cloth on the walls since the day we moved in.  I know, grass cloth is super in right now but ours looked terrible.  You could see virtually every seam and it was peeling in more places than one...YUCK!

At first peel, I was nervous when the walls looked like this!

However, after a little google I found the perfect solution.  Extremely hot water and FABRIC softener.

Spray Bottle
Mix a little fabric sofener
Extremly hot water

It worked like magic.  You just spray a section, let it sit for a minute or two and then peel from the bottom corner up!

We were done in about two hours. AND that includes clean up time!

I am LOVING it already!!

There is a nice primer coat all ready for us...now we just need to pick a color!  AND let's not even discuss that light...GOT.TO.GO!

Farm TABLE

I have been DROOLING over farm tables all over everywhere for the loooongest.  I just could never drop the mullah required to have one of these beauties reside in my house.  ENTER ana-white.  Once again we found an awesome plan that we were able to easily modify for our needs.

It came together pretty easily!  The hardest part was moving it ALL the way to the dining room...WOW it is heavy!

Sometime last year we scored this really awesome table base at a yard sale.  It is the base from an industrial sewing table!! LOVE it.

We went with a lighter color to help the base really stand out.  I could NOT be happier with the color and the finish.  It goes perfect with our chairs that we also purchased last year.

First coat - Glidden Natural Linen
Stain - MinWax Classic Gray 270  (one person brushes while the other wipes it right off)
A little sanding for some aging
Several Coats of MinWax - Polycrylic, satin finish (sand between each coat)

PERFECT farm table if you ask me!

See that wall and that WALL paper...one is down and the other will be soon!!!

Check back tomorrow to see more progress!
